Transformation of the Ponsonby eyesore "Soho Square" is well underway and Grouting Services was there at the start carrying out strengthening works to the existing retention system to facilitate further excavation. Main contractor, Ebert Construction has been on site since August 2014 and the $95M Countdown building is scheduled for completion mid-2016.

The 14,000m2 building will house the Countdown supermarket on the Williamson Avenue/Pollen Street side and will also include specialty retail shops and office spaces across three levels. There will be five levels of car parking below the Cider Building, including 220 dedicated car parks for Countdown shoppers.

Grouting Services was awarded the subcontract for the remedial ground anchors that formed part of the strengthening to the existing retention system. A total of 59No multi-strand ground anchors (temporary) complete with steel walers were installed. In addition, 150No permanent soil nails (including some BluGeo Powerthread K60-25 GRP bars) were installed to extend the sprayed concrete walls to the base of the excavation.
