The new 4-star hotel has been built within the existing airport car park space at the front of the main international terminal. The 12-level building accommodates 263 rooms, a gymnasium, a 150-seat restaurant and bar, 11 meeting rooms, a conference/function room for 300 people and an airline crew lounge. A stunning10m high living wall has been installed in the ground floor reception area.

Grouting Services was responsible for the design, supply and installation of double corrosion protected strand anchors (100year design life) within the Auckland International Airport operating environment. Drilling required the use of a specialist duplex drilling system to maintain a stable hole within the dense to very dense sands (Puketoka Formation). The design included a requirement for enhancing the geotechnical ultimate skin friction capacity of the ground anchors with the use of high-pressure post-grouting. A site specific grouting programme was developed in consultation with the Design Consultant and the technique of post-grouting was validated when, after testing a ground anchor to the point of failure, and then undertaking additional rounds of targeted post-grouting, the ground anchor was re-tested and loaded to a significantly higher load.
